HP: 33 models
HP, headquartered in Palo Alto, California, sells its Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) technology under the Jet Fusion name. A print head applies fusing and detailing agents to a layer of polymer powder, infrared lamps melt the wetted areas, and no laser or scanner is involved. The production range for PA 12, PA 11 and further thermoplastics began with the Jet Fusion 3200 and 4200/4210, followed by the 5200 series (5200, 5210, 5210 Pro), the 5420W for white parts and the 5600. The 300/500 and 540/580 Color series address full-colour parts and entry-level production. An MJF installation is more than the printer: Build Units (removable build carriages), Processing Stations (for example M0P42A, M0P49A with Fast Cooling, and the versions for 5200 and 5420W), Natural Cooling Units and Automatic Unpacking Stations are part of the system and appear as separate entries in our catalog. Automotive, consumer goods, medical devices and service bureaus are typical operators.
The 4200 and 4210 are the machines seen in used listings with some regularity; both are discontinued, while the 5200 series and the 5600 are current. Build Units and Processing Stations of the 4200 generation do not simply carry over to the 5200 generation, so a used system should be evaluated as a matched package. The 580/540 colour printers target prototypes and small series and are offered less frequently.
Checkpoints before purchase: availability and shelf life of agents and print heads for the given generation, operating hours and maintenance history, transferability of service contracts and the HP SmartStream 3D Build Manager software, condition of lamps, heaters and powder transport, and site requirements (three-phase power, compressed air, extraction, room climate). Powder refresh ratios and recycling practice affect part cost and should be documented. Below you will find the technical data of all 33 HP models in our catalog, together with the ones currently offered used.
