HP Jet Fusion 5000 3D Build Unit — Technical data

The HP Jet Fusion 5000 3D Build Unit is the build unit of the entry-level Jet Fusion 5000. It is filled with powder, inserted into the printer and holds a build of 380 × 284 × 250 mm, roughly 27 litres. HP gives its weight as 140.5 kg. After printing the unit is removed and either unpacked manually or, after the upgrade, processed at the 5200 series processing station. According to HP, additional build units can raise build capacity from 27 to 41 litres; how this works in practice is not clear from the documents.

Anyone buying used 5000 build units should make sure they are not 5200 units with a different build height and confirm compatibility with their own printer beforehand. Check piston, platform, heating and contacts as well as the material history. With manual powder handling the condition of the seals is particularly important.
