The HP Metal Jet Build Unit is the exchangeable build unit of the Metal Jet S100 binder jetting platform. The metal powder bed is built up in it layer by layer and printed with binder; it then travels with the green parts to the curing station and on to the powder removal station. The build platform measures 430 × 309 × 200 mm, and HP gives the unit's weight as 261 kg. How many build units belong to a system depends on the configuration: one for the S100D, two for the S100P and six for the S100 mass-production package with two printers.

Additional used build units can raise the throughput of an existing S100. Before buying, clarify compatibility and software version, the condition of platform, drive and seals, and the material history: units that ran 316L should be thoroughly cleaned before switching to 17-4PH. Metal powder also requires occupational safety measures during transport and removal.
