Binder jetting (BJ) is a powder bed process that works without a laser. A recoater spreads powder, a print head deposits liquid binder only where the part is to form, and the particles are glued together layer by layer. After printing, the green part is removed from the loose powder, which acts as its support. For metals, debinding and sintering in a furnace follow, during which the part shrinks and densifies; for sand and PMMA the green part is used directly as a casting mold, core or investment casting pattern. Materials include stainless and tool steels, copper and Inconel on the metal side, silica and ceramic sand and PMMA on voxeljet machines. The process is fast and support-free but demands well-controlled sintering, and metal parts reach lower density than laser melting.
The catalog lists the Desktop Metal Shop System, Production System P-1 and P-50, X25Pro, X160Pro and InnoventX as well as the S-Max and S-Print of ExOne origin, the ExOne InnoventX and X1 25Pro as separate entries, and the voxeljet VX200, VX500, VX1000 and VX4000 for sand and PMMA. The Shop System, InnoventX, S-Print and VX1000 are the models most likely to appear second-hand.
When buying used, inspect the print heads (wear, binder clogging), powder handling including extraction and sieving, the condition of recoater and build box, and the matching sintering furnace with its atmosphere control. Material and binder supply on Desktop Metal systems is largely closed, so the licensing of Live Sinter and printer software as well as spare parts supply should be clarified following the takeover by Nano Dimension. Below you will find the technical data of all 29 binder jetting models in our catalog, together with those currently offered second-hand.
