Desktop Metal Shop System 12L — Technical data
The Shop System 12L is the third version of Desktop Metal's binder jetting line, offering 150 mm of build height on a 350 × 222 mm area, around twelve litres of build volume. It sits between the 8L and 16L and suits users whose parts exceed 100 mm but who rarely need the full 200 mm. Printhead (around 70,000 nozzles, five-fold redundancy, 1,600 dpi) and layer thicknesses of 50 to 100 µm match the other versions. After printing, the green parts are dried, depowdered and sintered; Desktop Metal states a dimensional tolerance of ±2 %, tighter with Live Sinter. It processes stainless steels, cobalt-chrome and IN625.
With a used 12L, first clarify whether the drying oven, powder station and furnace are included, as the printer alone cannot produce finished parts. Also important are nozzle dropouts, powder residue and contamination in the build box, the service history and the package purchased, which determines powder freedom.
