Desktop Metal Shop System 4L — Technical data
The Shop System 4L is the lowest of four build heights of Desktop Metal's binder jetting machine. Like its siblings it builds on 350 × 222 mm, with a printhead of around 70,000 nozzles at 1,600 dpi and layers of 50 to 100 µm; build height, however, is limited to 50 mm, or roughly four litres of build volume. That suits flat parts such as blades, tabs or brackets that can be spread across the area in a single layer. Anyone needing taller parts or several layers per job should look at the 8L to 16L. Sintering takes place in a separate furnace; materials include stainless steels, cobalt-chrome and IN625.
A used 4L makes most sense if the part range stays below 50 mm in height for good – a conversion to more build height is not documented. Check nozzle dropouts on the printhead, drying oven, powder station and furnace, and the package purchased, since only Shop System Pro allows third-party powder.
