Desktop Metal Shop System 8L — Technical data

The Shop System 8L doubles the build height of the 4L to 100 mm on the same 350 × 222 mm area, giving roughly eight litres of build volume. Process, the printhead with around 70,000 nozzles at 1,600 dpi, layer thicknesses of 50 to 100 µm and the maximum build rate of 800 cm³/h are identical across all four versions. With 100 mm it can print medium-height parts or stack flat parts in two layers; for taller components there are the 12L and 16L. The system includes a drying oven, powder station and sintering furnace, and Live Sinter software compensates for shrinkage. Materials are stainless steels (17-4 PH, 304, 316L), cobalt-chrome and IN625.

Before buying a used 8L, have the build height confirmed on the nameplate, as the data sheet gives the same external dimensions for every version. After that, nozzle condition and print hours matter, as do transferability of software and package (Shop System, + or Pro) and a secure supply of DM binder through Arc Impact.
