Voxeljet VX500 — Technical data
The VX500 is voxeljet's compact production printer for sand, plastic and ceramic parts using binder jetting. Its build box measures 500 × 400 × 300 mm; according to the 2021 data sheet, an inkjet printhead at 600 dpi binds the powder in layers 150 or 300 µm thick. It processes silica sand with furan or phenolic binder for casting moulds and cores, PMMA for investment casting patterns, and ceramics. The machine weighs about 1.2 t. A 2012 brochure still lists 80 µm layers, a 42.3 µm grid and around 15 mm of build height per hour, indicating changed configurations over the production period. Following the merger with ExOne, the VX500 is missing from the range.
For a used VX500, first clarify which material it is set up for, since sand, PMMA and ceramic operation differ in binder, recoater and accessories. After that, printhead condition, nozzle failures, cleaning station and the exchangeable build box containers matter. Unpacking requires an extraction and sieving station, plus exhaust for furan binder. Year of manufacture and data sheet version determine spare parts; service is now offered by ExOne.
