ExOne S-Max Flex — Technical data
The S-Max Flex arrived in 2022, shortly after the Desktop Metal takeover, as a more affordable entry into the large sand class. Unlike the other S-Max models, it uses an industrial robot rather than a gantry to move a combined print and recoat head over a telescoping job box of 1,900 × 1,000 × 1,000 mm. The head uses Desktop Metal's single-pass jetting; it processes silica sand with furan binder at 0.28 to 0.5 mm layers and more than 115 litres per hour. The system no longer appears in ExOne's current range.
Used, the S-Max Flex is a rare machine with a short production period, so clarify spare parts supply for robot, printhead and controls with particular care. The robot itself is usually easy to service, whereas the printhead is specific to Desktop Metal. Check calibration records, condition of head and cleaning station, light curtain and safety equipment, and the supply voltage, as the documents state 480 V. Raise software licences for Fabricate MFG separately.
