Desktop Metal Production System P-1 — Technical data

The P-1 is the smaller model of the Production System range, with which Desktop Metal aimed to establish binder jetting for series production. It uses Single Pass Jetting: two piezo printheads with 4,096 nozzles print at a native 1,200 dpi into a 200 × 100 × 40 mm build box at up to 1,350 cm³/h. The chamber is brought below 2 % oxygen with nitrogen or clean dry air, so reactive materials are possible; standard MIM powders are used. The P-1 was intended for parameter development and small batches before processes are transferred to the large P-50. The range is no longer actively marketed.

Buying a used P-1 means taking over a machine without a visible sales and service programme. Complete documentation, maintenance logs, spare printheads and working control software therefore count for a lot. Also check the inerting system, the 400 V connection and the downstream chain of depowdering and sintering furnace. Anyone planning series processes should find out whether Arc Impact still supports Production System machines.
