ExOne S-Max — Technical data
The S-Max is ExOne's large sand printer for printed casting moulds and cores in foundries. Its job box measures 1,800 × 1,000 × 700 mm and holds about 1,260 litres. The printhead applies furan resin, later also cold-hardening phenolic, onto silica sand in layers of 0.28 to 0.5 mm. With a second job box, printing continues while the first one is unpacked. The machine weighs several tonnes. Since 2019 it has been followed by the S-Max Pro with the same job box, a new printhead and an automated recoater.
A used S-Max requires space, a foundation, three-phase power, extraction and controlled sand preparation. Check printhead and nozzle failures, the full-width recoater, mixer, cleaning station, job box carriage and heater. The binder system must suit your foundry; converting from furan to phenolic is laborious. Given the discontinuation, ask ExOne about spare parts and software level and review the maintenance history; dismantling and transport require specialists and heavy haulage.
