voxeljet, based in Friedberg near Augsburg, Germany, develops and builds binder jetting systems for sand and PMMA polymer powder. A powder bed is spread layer by layer and a print head selectively deposits binder; the parts cure within the powder bed and are then unpacked. Sand yields moulds and cores for metal casting, while PMMA produces patterns for investment casting and functional samples. The range comprises the VX200, VX500, VX1000 and VX4000, which differ mainly in build volume; the VX4000 ranks among the large-format powder bed machines for sand moulds. The VX200 is also available as an HSS (High Speed Sintering) variant for polymer powder, in which infrared emitters instead of a laser consolidate the material. Users are foundries, automotive and machinery manufacturers, casting service providers and research institutes.

The VX500 and VX1000 are the machines most often sold used, typically coming from service bureaus and foundries; the VX200 appears as a development and laboratory system. The machines have gone through several generations with changes to print heads, recoaters and controls that are hardly visible from the outside but matter for spare parts and software.

When buying used, check the condition and age of the print head, the recoater, the build platform drive and the head cleaning station; print heads are regarded as wear parts. Clarify whether binder, activator and powder must be sourced from voxeljet or whether alternatives are approved, and whether software licences and the service agreement are transferable. Peripherals include an unpacking station, a microwave or oven for curing (depending on the material), sieves and powder conveying equipment, which ideally should be part of the deal. Utility requirements are three-phase power, compressed air and extraction; sand and PMMA dust call for occupational safety measures.
