MakerBot Replicator Z18 — Technical data

The MakerBot Replicator Z18 was the large-format model of the Replicator family and, at 300 × 305 × 457 mm, offers considerably more height than the other models. It is enclosed, has a heatable interior and prints 1.75 mm PLA with a single extruder, in later versions the Smart Extruder+. MakerBot states positioning precision of 11 µm in XY and 2.5 µm in Z. Wi-Fi, Ethernet, USB and a simple camera are included; the build plate itself is not heated.

With a used Z18 the long Z travel is the weak point: check leadscrew, guides and platform carrier for play and noise. Tall prints often take days, so observe smooth running in a longer test. The extruder is a swap part, and a spare makes operation easier. MakerBot Desktop is no longer maintained, and newer MakerBot programs support the device only to a limited extent. At 41 kg and over 86 cm in height, transport needs two people and sturdy packaging.
