Essentium HSE 180 — Technical data
The HSE 180 was the first machine from Texas-based Essentium. Announced in 2018 and first exhibited at RAPID + TCT 2019, it uses a single print head, linear motors instead of belts and a heated nozzle (the 'Hozzle') rated to 550 °C. The build volume is around 690 × 500 × 600 mm, and it prints 1.75 mm filament at up to 500 mm/s. It was first sold as the HSE 180•S with an LT or HT nozzle and later as the HSE 180 LT, ST and HT; the variants differ mainly in temperature range and supply fusing. The two-head HSE 280i HT has the same external dimensions.
When buying used, first establish the variant: an LT machine is fused at only 20 A and is not intended for PEEK. Inspect the nozzles and extruder gears for wear, check the linear axes for noise and the heated plate for flatness. Essentium belonged to Nexa3D from 2024, which ceased operations at the end of that year, so there is no manufacturer service. Spare nozzles, build plates and control parts should ideally come with the machine. Allow for about 850 kg, a height of almost 2.5 m and a 220/240 V supply.
