Velo3D Sapphire XC 1MZ — Technical data
The Sapphire XC 1MZ is Velo3D's largest system. It was presented in June 2022, and the first units went to aviation customers from the third quarter of 2022. It combines the 600 mm diameter of the Sapphire XC with a build height of 1,000 mm, and eight 1 kW lasers share the build field. This allows combustion chambers, housings or lines for engines to be made in one piece. Velo3D quotes typical surfaces of 5 to 15 µm Sa and today up to 800 cm³ per hour; the 2023 product brief still stated 400 cm³.
The system weighs about 8.5 tonnes and needs a pit 160 cm deep; the 5 m width applies with the build module extended. A purchase therefore involves foundation and building work, for which Velo3D provides a site planning guide. Key points are the lift axis over the full metre, the build module seals and the laser hours of all eight sources. Powder stock, sieving plant and gas supply need to be clarified. As Velo3D is under financial pressure, a transferable service contract carries particular weight.
