UltiMaker Method — Technical data
The Method was developed by MakerBot and first sold as the MakerBot Method; since the merger UltiMaker has offered it under its own name. It is a compact dual extruder for 1.75 mm filament with direct drive and a chamber actively heated to 65 °C, which reduces warping with engineering plastics. Build volume for dual extrusion is 152 × 190 × 196 mm. Filaments are stored in two sealed drawers with humidity sensor and NFC recognition, and printing takes place on a flexible steel plate. The successor with a hotter chamber is the Method X.
With a used Method the supplied extruders matter most, as they carry nozzle and drive and are expensive wear parts; typically 1A for model and 2A for PVA support. Older units ran with MakerBot Print and the MakerBot cloud account; today UltiMaker CloudPrint takes over, so have the unit detached from the old account. Check the dry bays for tightness and the humidity display, and watch chamber heating and fans during a test run. Spare parts are available via UltiMaker, although the range is smaller than for the S series.
