UltiMaker Material Station — Technical data

The Material Station is a base unit for the large S series printers: the printer stands on it and draws up to six spools of 2.85 mm filament from it. It appeared in 2019 together with the S5 Pro Bundle and, according to the manufacturer, also fits the S6, S7 and S8. The station recognises UltiMaker spools via NFC, keeps humidity in the closed compartment below 40 % and automatically switches to a full spool of the same material when one runs empty. Power and data run through a dedicated connection to the printer, which the station also supplies.

When buying a used Material Station, test all six bays with filament, as the feeders and filament sensors are the most common sources of faults. The humidity reading in the printer menu should drop after a few hours with the door closed; otherwise seals or desiccant are spent. Cables, spool holder cover and Bowden guides should be complete. Firmware of station and printer must match; older S5 units need an update. At almost 18 kg it belongs on a pallet, well packed.
