UltiMaker 3 — Technical data
The Ultimaker 3 arrived in 2016 as Ultimaker's first dual-extrusion printer with swappable print cores, establishing the concept that the S3 and S5 continue. Two Bowden extruders print 2.85 mm filament, and the second nozzle lifts automatically when not in use. Each nozzle has 215 × 215 × 200 mm available, and 197 × 215 × 200 mm with both materials. The heated glass plate reaches 100 °C and is actively measured, NFC chips on the spools report the material, and a camera allows remote monitoring via Wi-Fi or LAN.
Used Ultimaker 3 units are common and attractively priced, but need care: the early print cores tend to clog after long use, especially the BB core with PVA. Check that nozzle lifting switches reliably, the print head fans run and the feeders are not worn. Firmware updates are now rare, and network functions via the old Ultimaker app are limited. S series print cores fit mechanically, but profiles and spare parts should be agreed with a dealer.
