Stratasys FDM Quantum — Technical data

The FDM Quantum, launched in 1998, was Stratasys' first large system with MagnaDrive, in which the extrusion head floats on a cushion of air and is guided electromagnetically. According to the trade press, its 600 × 500 × 600 mm build volume was about 30 percent larger than that of the FDM 8000, and it was said to work up to five times faster. It was intended for large ABS models and master patterns for tooling. The machine itself measures about 2.1 × 1.9 × 1.0 m. The Maxum, introduced in 2000, built on its technology and added WaterWorks soluble support; the Quantum is the older version without it. Stratasys now mentions it only in the title of its legacy support page.

A used Quantum is for buyers with their own technical expertise and a parts source. Clarify the transport route and floor space for this very large machine, the electrical supply, the condition of the air bearing and extrusion heads, and which material can still be processed. Manufacturer service should not be expected; manuals and the control PC should come complete.
