Stratasys FDM Prodigy — Technical data
Stratasys released the FDM Prodigy in 2000 as an office system for design departments: it needs no special ventilation, and STL files are dragged and dropped into Catalyst software, which prepares them automatically. It builds in ABS within 203 × 203 × 305 mm, with a choice of fine, standard or draft layer thickness. The unit measures about 86 × 69 × 104 cm. Compared with the Prodigy Plus, it lacks WaterWorks soluble support and Insight software; both arrived only with the Plus model. From 2002 Stratasys offered a new class of office machines with the Dimension range. The Prodigy is discontinued.
Used, the Prodigy is of interest at most for simple ABS parts, teaching or as a piece of technology history. Before buying, ask to see a test print, check the print head and cartridge mechanism, and find out whether material cartridges for it can still be obtained. A working PC with Catalyst is essential; without it the machine is hard to run.
