Stratasys Dimension BST 768 — Technical data
The Dimension BST 768 is the breakaway version of the older Dimension generation and the counterpart of the SST 768 with soluble support. On the BST, supports are printed from a material that is snapped off by hand after printing; no wash station is needed. It prints ABS. The designation stands for 768 cubic inches of build volume: according to Stratasys' 2006 user guide the build envelope measures 203 × 203 × 305 mm, and the unit weighs about 128 kg. Stratasys support today only lists the newer 1200es and Elite models.
Anyone looking to buy a BST 768 should request the rating plate, serial number and available documents from the seller in advance, as Stratasys hardly provides documentation any more. The key question is whether print heads, cartridges and spare parts for the older Dimension generation can still be obtained; without material supply the unit is hardly usable. A test print on site shows the condition of head, heating and axes. Operation also requires a PC running the old Catalyst software.
