Shining 3D FreeScan UE7 — Technical data

The FreeScan UE7 was the entry model of the first FreeScan UE generation, a cable-connected handheld laser scanner for metrology and reverse engineering. It uses 14 crossed blue laser lines plus a single line and, according to the 2022 brochure, achieves up to 0.02 mm accuracy, 0.02 + 0.04 mm/m volumetric and 0.02 + 0.025 mm/m in combination with the DigiMetric photogrammetry system. The rate is 860,000 points per second, the field of view 510 × 520 mm and the working distance 500 mm. At 750 g it is light and connects via USB 3.0. Its sister model UE11 has 22 lines. It was succeeded by the UE Pro.

Used, the UE7 is an inexpensive entry into laser-scanning metrology, though much slower than current models. Before buying, check whether the current FreeScan software still supports the unit and whether the licence is transferable. Check laser diodes for brightness, cameras for scratches and the USB cable for function. Calibration plate and report belong with it. The manufacturer recommended a PC with GTX 1080 graphics, 4 GB video memory and 32 GB RAM under Windows 10.
