Shining 3D FreeScan UE Nova — Technical data
The FreeScan UE Nova is a long-range handheld laser scanner for large parts such as car bodies, moulds or hulls. It uses 50 blue laser lines and an unusually large depth of field: in three modes it covers distances from 300 mm to 2.6 m, with a field of view of up to 2,600 × 2,200 mm. Shining 3D quotes 0.072 mm accuracy, 0.072 + 0.012 mm/m volumetric with the integrated video photogrammetry, and a rate of 4.6 million points per second. The scanner weighs 1.6 kg and transmits via Wi-Fi or fibre optic. It also serves as the second scan head of the Trak Nova system. Its successor is the UE Nova+.
With a used UE Nova, distinguish whether it is sold standalone or as part of a Trak Nova set, as calibration belongs to the respective system. The swappable batteries last only a short time in use, so enough spares matter. Inspect laser exit window and cameras for scratches. FreeScan software is licensed permanently, but the licence must be transferred. Calibration plate and report should be included. Because of the large data volumes, a computer with plenty of memory is required.
