Shining 3D FreeScan Combo — Technical data
The FreeScan Combo is a handheld metrology scanner combining blue laser lines with an infrared VCSEL projector, introduced in 2023. Laser mode, with 26 crossed lines, 7 parallel lines or a single line, serves accurate measurement with markers, while infrared mode handles fast marker-free scans of larger surfaces. Shining 3D quotes 0.02 mm accuracy and volumetric accuracy of 0.02 + 0.033 mm/m, at 1.86 million points per second in laser mode and, according to the trade press, 2.25 million in infrared mode. The scanner weighs 620 g and measures 193 × 63 × 53 mm. It is the base model of the Combo series; the Combo+ has 50 laser lines.
Used, the Combo is an affordable solution for toolmaking and reverse engineering. Before buying, check the laser lines for evenness and the IR projector window for scratches. The scanner is cable-connected, so inspect cable and connector. FreeScan software needs no subscription, but the licence is tied to the serial number and must be transferred. The calibration board and a current calibration report belong with it, as do markers. The PC needs a current NVIDIA RTX card.
