Shining 3D EINSTAR — Technical data

The EINSTAR is the first scanner of Shining 3D's prosumer brand EINSTAR and was launched in 2022. The compact scanner uses three infrared VCSEL projectors, two depth cameras and an RGB camera for colour texture. According to the brochure it captures point distances of 0.1 to 3 mm at up to 14 frames per second, works at distances between 160 mm and 1.4 m and covers a field of 434 × 379 mm at optimal distance. It weighs 0.5 kg and connects via USB to a Windows PC. The manufacturer gives no accuracy figure.

Used, the EINSTAR is an inexpensive entry, but not a measuring device. Check the projector windows for scratches and whether the software detects and calibrates the unit. The EINSTAR software is free, with activation via the serial number. Calibration board and USB cable belong with it. Performance depends heavily on the PC: an NVIDIA graphics card with enough video memory and 32 GB RAM are sensible. For fine detail, the newer EINSTAR 2 or Rockit with laser lines are better suited.
