Renishaw AM400 — Technical data
The AM400 is the further development of the AM250 and was presented at formnext at the end of 2015. It keeps the platform with vacuum chamber and the 250 × 250 × 300 mm build volume, but received new optics with a 400 W fibre laser and 70 µm focus, a larger filter, revised gas flow and new control software. The data sheet states up to 20 cm³/h at 20 to 100 µm layer thickness; material files from the 200 W AM250 can be carried over. The machine weighs about 1.1 t and needs only a single-phase 16 A supply. It is no longer part of Renishaw's current range.
Used, the AM400 is a comparatively affordable entry into laser melting, and because it is less automated than the RenAM 500 it suits material changes and research well. Check laser hours, protective window and filter housing, vacuum pump and chamber seals, the available material parameters and whether the control PC and software come along in working order. As Renishaw now focuses on the RenAM 500 series, service history and a commitment on spare parts are among the most important questions.
