Meltio M450 — Technical data

The M450 was the first production system from Spanish manufacturer Meltio, based in Linares. It does not build in a powder bed but deposits metal from wire: six 200 W diode lasers converge in the head on the wire, which is welded track by track in the melt pool. The build envelope of 145 × 168 × 390 mm is narrow and tall; the machine weighs 250 kg and fits into a lab corner. It processes standard welding wire in stainless, mild and carbon steel, titanium and nickel alloys. Since 2024 the much larger M600 with blue lasers has taken over this role.

When buying a used M450, look first at the deposition head: protective glasses, output of all six diodes and the wire guide. Chiller, shielding gas supply and chamber seals also matter. Check which options such as Hot Wire or Dual Wire are fitted and whether slicer licences can be transferred. As Meltio no longer offers the system, clarify spare parts, laser calibration and software support beforehand. Printed parts almost always need machining afterwards.
