The X3 Gen 2 took the place of the first generation after its end of sale in June 2019 and remained in the range until 15 November 2023. Housing, the 330 × 270 × 200 mm build volume and the laser for bed levelling and print calibration stayed the same. New are a second-generation extruder with out-of-material detection, layers up to 200 µm and a wider material choice: besides Onyx, Onyx FR and Onyx ESD, the 2022 data sheet also lists Nylon White, Precise PLA and Smooth TPU. The Gen 2 does not process continuous fibre either – that was the job of the X5 and X7. The old product page now redirects to the FX10, and Markforged names no successor.

Anyone needing flame-retardant or ESD-safe Onyx should choose the Gen 2 over the Gen 1. Check the part number (F-PR-3014 or 21448), print hours, extruder and nozzle, laser calibration and bed flatness. Whether a Gen 2 can be converted to fibre printing is not documented. Support ends on 31 December 2028.
