Markforged X3 (Gen 1) — Technical data
The first-generation X3 was one of two new entry models in Markforged's industrial X series in 2017. It printed only Onyx, a nylon filled with chopped carbon fibre, on a 330 × 270 × 200 mm build volume and used a laser for bed levelling and active print calibration. It did not process continuous fibre. Markforged explicitly positioned the X3 as a starting point: according to the press release, it could later be upgraded to an X5 or X7. Sales ended on 30 June 2019, when it was replaced by the X3 Gen 2 with a revised extruder and more materials; support continues until 31 December 2028.
The Gen 1 is the older version and limited to Onyx. When buying used, find out whether a Gen 2 extruder has already been retrofitted and whether the former upgrade path to the X5 or X7 is still offered. Check the part number (F-PR-3004), print hours, nozzle, bed flatness and Eiger access; subscriptions can only be renewed until the end of 2027.
