Markforged Metal X (Gen 1) — Technical data

The first-generation Metal X came onto the market in 2017 and founded Markforged's Metal X System: a printer extrudes bound metal powder into a 300 × 220 × 180 mm build volume, after which the parts are debound in the Wash-1 and sintered in the Sinter-1 or Sinter-2. The 2020 data sheet lists 17-4PH, tool steels, Inconel 625 and copper as materials. In June 2021 the Gen 2 followed with an external touchscreen, door sensors and additional chamber insulation; the Gen 1 was discontinued on 21 June 2021. Support continues until 31 December 2027, and contracts can only be renewed until the end of 2026.

For a buyer, the short remaining support period is the most important point. It should also be clear whether the debinder and sintering furnace are included and what condition they are in. On the printer itself, check nozzles, heated bed and chamber, as well as the materials enabled in Eiger. Variants without Wi-Fi need a suitable offline solution for the software.
