Formlabs Fuse 1 — Technical data
The Fuse 1 was Formlabs' first SLS system and brought plastic laser sintering into a compact format for development departments and smaller production shops. A 10 W ytterbium fibre laser sinters Nylon 12 powder in a 165 × 165 × 300 mm build volume at 110 µm layer thickness; no supports are needed. The build chamber is removable and is unpacked in the Fuse Sift while the printer can continue with a second chamber. In the EU a 230 V connection with 7.5 A on a dedicated circuit is sufficient. Since 2022 the Fuse 1+ 30W has been the successor, with a more powerful laser and an optional nitrogen environment.
On a used Fuse 1, what counts are laser hours – Formlabs specifies more than 10,000 hours –, the condition of heating elements and filters (HEPA and carbon stage) and the number of build chambers. According to the data sheet, 30 to 50 % fresh powder is needed per print; ask about leftover powder, its storage and age. Without a Fuse Sift, operation is cumbersome. Clarify Dashboard transfer, service plan and which powders are still released for the Fuse 1, because newer materials such as Nylon 11 CF require nitrogen.
