Formlabs Form 4 — Technical data

Since April 2024 the Form 4 has been Formlabs' desktop resin printer, replacing the Form 3+. Instead of a laser, a Light Processing Unit 4 with 60 LEDs and an LCD mask exposes each layer in full (405 nm, 50 µm pixel size); Formlabs calls the process Low Force Display. As a result, print time hardly depends on how many parts are on the platform, and the maximum speed is 100 mm/h. The build volume is 20.0 × 12.5 × 21.0 cm, layer thickness 25 to 200 µm. It processes 23 Formlabs resins and, in Open Material Mode, third-party resins; for biocompatible resins there is the Form 4B.

Used Form 4 units are usually young; what matters is how intensively they ran. The LPU can be replaced; ask about print hours, error messages and whether it has already been swapped. Formlabs rates the resin tank at more than 75,000 layers, and the count can be traced in Dashboard. Look for clean, scratch-free glass surfaces under the tank, the release from the Dashboard account and any remaining warranty or service plan.
