Formlabs Form 3B — Technical data

The Form 3B is the dental and medical variant of the Form 3. Technically it works the same way, with Low Force Stereolithography, a Light Processing Unit with a 250 mW laser and a build volume of 14.5 × 14.5 × 18.5 cm. The difference lies in the materials: the 3B is released for Formlabs' biocompatible resins, for example for surgical guides, occlusal splints or models, and Formlabs supports the device through its dental division. Its successor was the Form 3B+, which in turn has been replaced by the Form 4B.

Anyone planning to use a second-hand 3B for medical devices should look closely at the documentation: maintenance records, separate resin tanks per material so that biocompatible resins are not contaminated, and the condition of the LPU and optical window. Also important are the release from the Dashboard account, the firmware version and whether Form Wash and Form Cure are included, because the processing instructions for biocompatible resins specify defined washing and curing steps.
