Formlabs Form 3 — Technical data

With the Form 3, Formlabs introduced Low Force Stereolithography (LFS) in 2019: a flexible resin tank and a Light Processing Unit (LPU) that guides the laser linearly across the layer reduce peel forces, so lighter supports that are easier to remove are sufficient. The build volume is 14.5 × 14.5 × 18.5 cm, the 250 mW laser works with an 85 µm spot, and layer thickness ranges from 25 to 300 µm depending on the resin. The printer is aimed at product development, fixture making and small series. It was replaced by the Form 3+, and the Form 4 now follows.

On a used Form 3 the LPU is the focus: it can be swapped on site, but a replacement costs money. Ask about LPU and galvanometer errors in the log, the age and number of resin tanks – the flexible film wears – and the condition of the build platform. Clarify whether the printer has been removed from the previous owner's Dashboard account, whether a service plan can be transferred and which firmware is installed.
