Formlabs Form 2 — Technical data
The Form 2 is the desktop SLA printer Formlabs offered before the Form 3. A 405 nm, 250 mW laser cures resin layer by layer in a self-heating tank, and the build volume is 145 × 145 × 175 mm. Resin comes from cartridges and is refilled automatically; after each layer the tank slides sideways and a wiper redistributes the resin. The Form 2 was used in product design, dental technology, jewellery and education. In 2019 it was followed by the Form 3 with Low Force Stereolithography. The Form 2 is discontinued, but Formlabs still supports it, and its cartridges also fit the successors.
Used, the Form 2 is an inexpensive way into resin printing. The tank is a wear part and turns cloudy over time; the optical window and mirrors should be free of dust and scratches. Ask for print history, error messages and spare tanks, check the build platform and wiper, and have the seller remove the printer from their Dashboard account. Before buying, also check which current resins are still released for the Form 2.
