Farsoon FS271M — Technical data

The FS271M was Farsoon's first medium-sized metal laser melting system and, according to the manufacturer, came to market in 2015. A 500 W ytterbium fibre laser exposes a 275 × 275 × 320 mm build volume; the machine measures 1,750 × 1,420 × 1,860 mm and weighs just over two tonnes. Even with this model Farsoon emphasised open parameters: users could set machine parameters freely and use powders from other suppliers. Target markets were aerospace, automotive and medical. In 2021 the FS273M replaced it, with greater build height, a digital scanner and a dual-laser option.

On a used FS271M, the age of the control system is a key point: the software originally ran on Windows XP, so clarify whether an update to newer systems is possible. Check laser hours, scanner, filter system and gas tightness, as well as the availability of spare parts for recoater and sensors. Without a service record and manufacturer support from Farsoon Europe, a purchase only makes sense at a discount.
