The EP-C5050 is an Eplus3D laser sintering system for foundries. Instead of functional parts it produces patterns from polystyrene powder that are burned out in investment casting; according to the manufacturer, resin-bonded sand can also be processed. A 55 W CO2 laser with dynamic focusing exposes a build field of 520 × 520 × 500 mm at up to 6 m/s, with layer thicknesses of 0.08–0.3 mm. Two supply cylinders and a recoater spreading in both directions keep idle times short. The system weighs around 1.6 t, and the user interface runs on Windows 7.

When buying a used EP-C5050, what matters most is which powder system was last run, as PS pattern powder and sand place different demands on extraction and cleaning. Check laser, mirrors, focusing unit, heating, recoater and cylinder seals. Because of the Windows 7 control computer, clarify whether Eplus3D still maintains the software. Foundry experience and a suitable infiltration and burn-out chain are prerequisites for operation.
