EOS PRECIOUS M 080 — Technical data

The PRECIOUS M 080 was developed in 2014 by EOS together with the precious metals supplier Cooksongold and, according to EOS, was the first commercial system for processing gold in a powder bed. It is aimed at jewellery and watch makers: on a round build platform of 80 mm diameter and about 95 mm build height, rings, pendants or case parts are built directly from precious metal powder. A 100 W fibre laser with a very small focus allows fine structures; the system needs only a 13 A connection and weighs 580 kg. It was sold through Cooksongold, and EOS no longer lists it.

When buying a used M 080, the key question is which alloys have parameters, as gold and silver alloys behave very differently in the process. Check laser hours, service records, the condition of recoater and filter and the software for data preparation and process control. Given the value of the metal, powder recovery, extraction and thorough cleaning before handover should also be checked.
