EOS EOSINT M 270 — Technical data

The EOSINT M 270 was launched in 2004 as the first commercial DMLS system with a fibre laser, replacing the CO₂-based M 250 Xtended. A 200 W ytterbium fibre laser exposes a 250 × 250 × 215 mm build volume in layers of 20 or 40 µm. There were two versions: Standard with nitrogen and Xtended with argon, which is required for titanium and other reactive materials. The machine was used for mould inserts, medical and dental parts in cobalt-chrome and components in stainless and maraging steel. Its successor is the EOSINT M 280 with a build height of 325 mm.

A used M 270 is an affordable entry into metal powder bed fusion, but the version determines the materials: titanium may only be processed under argon. Check laser hours, the condition of scanner and f-theta lens, the recirculating filter, the available parameter sets and whether process computer and software still run. As the machine has long been discontinued, spare parts supply should be clarified before buying.
