DWS DW 029MKIII — Technical data
According to DWS, the DW 029MKIII is the third generation of the DigitalWax 029, the series that made the company known in the jewellery trade. A BlueEdge solid-state laser draws via a galvanometer scanner into a build volume of 170 × 170 × 200 mm. There are two versions: the standard version at 40 µm and the HR version at 20 µm resolution for especially fine detail. DWS states a power draw of typically 80 W, well below the 500 W of the DW 029XC. Nauta+ and Fictor software are included, and castable resins such as Fusia Digital Wax are the main application.
As the MKIII is still current, used units are likely to be young and partly still under warranty or a maintenance contract, which is worth asking about. It matters whether a standard or HR laser is fitted, since this determines detail and value. In casting houses the machines often run around the clock, so resin vat and build platform are worn accordingly. The room needs 20 to 25 °C at no more than 60 per cent humidity. Check leftover castable resin for shelf life.
