DWS DFAB — Technical data
The DFAB is a dental printer from DWS for the dental practice, presented at IDS 2017. It uses laser stereolithography with a 40 µm laser spot to print crowns, bridges and veneers right at the chair; according to DWS a bridge takes around 20 minutes. Its special feature is Photoshade: the software creates a colour gradient between two VITA shades so that the restoration looks more natural. The Temporis material comes in disposable cartridges, which removes the need to clean vat and platform. Besides the chairside column there was a desktop version.
The DFAB is a niche machine and no longer in the current DWS range. Anyone considering a used unit should above all check whether Temporis cartridges are still available and approved for patient use, as the printer is of little use without them. Just as important are the Photoshade software with licence and the post-curing that forms part of the validated workflow for medical devices. Laser and optics can be checked with test crowns of known fit. Service comes directly from DWS or dental dealers.
