Desktop Metal Studio System 2 — Technical data
The Studio System 2 is a metal printer for office and workshop environments that extrudes bound metal rods, similar to filament printing (Bound Metal Deposition). The build volume is 300 × 200 × 200 mm, and two quick-change heads with 0.25 or 0.40 mm nozzles print layers of 50 to 300 µm; a ceramic interface layer separates the supports so they can be broken off by hand after sintering. Compared with the first Studio System, the separate debinding step is gone and green parts go straight into the matching sintering furnace. Materials include 316L, 17-4 PH, 4140, H13, copper, IN625 and Ti64. It targets design and engineering departments needing prototypes and fixtures.
A used system only makes sense with the sintering furnace, so whether it is included is decisive. Check printheads, heated bed, cartridges and remaining rod stock, and the software: Live Suite is cloud-based, so continued use by a new owner must be clarified. Since material cartridges come only from the manufacturer, operation depends on Arc Impact's ability to supply them.
