Desktop Metal Furnace (Studio System 2 / Shop System) — Technical data
This Desktop Metal sintering furnace (internally "Furnace 1.6") is the shared sintering unit for the Studio System 2 and the Shop System. It reaches 1,400 °C and sinters at partial pressure under forming gas, argon or nitrogen; the retort, built from graphite rings, holds parts on five levels in a 300 × 200 × 170 mm work zone. Silicon carbide heating elements on four sides give ±5 °C uniformity according to the data sheet. A binder trap collects expelled binder, and sintering profiles are generated automatically. The furnace is the link that turns printed green parts into dense metal parts.
Anyone looking for a used furnace, for instance to complement a printer they already own, should check the graphite rings, shelf trays and heating elements and ask for the cycle count. At more than 700 kg, with a three-phase supply and an external gas connection, it needs suitable infrastructure including exhaust. Also important is whether sintering profiles for your own materials are available and whether the network link to the manufacturer's software still works after the change of ownership.
