Carbon Smart Part Washer — Technical data

The Smart Part Washer is Carbon's washing unit and came onto the market in March 2017 together with the M2. It takes a complete build platform, moves the parts through solvent and then spins them dry; the unit selects the cycle duration based on the resin, which it identifies via the platform's NFC chip. Approved solvents are VF 1, DPM and DAA. The unit measures about 889 × 610 × 1,245 mm and weighs around 159 kg; the display shows solvent level and contamination.

Before buying, clarify which printer the washer is meant to serve: M2 platforms and older M3 platforms with an adapter go in directly, while M3 Max and L1 parts can only be washed in the basket. Like the printers, the unit is connected to the internet and receives software from Carbon, so ownership and activation need checking as well. It matters which solvent was used last, as switching is laborious. VF 1 can be distilled, whereas DPM and DAA must be disposed of; the room needs ventilation and storage space for flammable liquids.
