Bambu Lab AMS — Technical data
The AMS (Automatic Material System) is Bambu Lab's material station for multi-colour and multi-material printing. Four spools sit in a sealed housing; each slot has its own feed motor that advances or rewinds filament, and a hub with a brushless motor merges the paths to the printer. RFID tags on Bambu spools are recognised automatically. Up to four units can be linked via an AMS hub for 16 spools. This first generation offers no drying, only desiccant and a humidity sensor; the later AMS 2 Pro adds heating.
A used AMS is often sold together with X1 or P1 printers, but it is also worthwhile on its own as a replacement or extension. Check all four feeder units with a load and rewind test, the tubes in the hub for wear, and the seals and lid. Abrasive filaments can wear the feed path, and TPU is unsuitable. The cable and, for several units, the AMS hub should be included. A1 printers need a separate hub. Bambu Lab sells spare parts such as feeder modules and tubes individually.
