Artec Spider — Technical data
The Artec Spider arrived in 2013 as the counterpart to the Eva for small, detailed parts. Instead of a flash bulb it projects structured light from a blue LED and works from just 17 to 35 cm away with a field of view of 90 × 70 to 180 × 140 mm. Point accuracy is up to 0.05 mm and resolution 0.1 mm; colour is captured by a 1.3 MP camera. Typical objects are castings, gears, jewellery or small museum pieces. The Spider is discontinued; Artec replaced it with the outwardly identical Space Spider.
A used Spider is the cheapest way into Artec's blue-light technology, but also the oldest unit in the series. Before buying, check whether the current version of Artec Studio still supports the device and which licence the buyer will have to purchase, since Artec states that licences are not transferable. Because Spider and Space Spider look the same, check the type plate. Also important are a clean, distortion-free test scan and the date of the last calibration.
