Artec Ray — Technical data

The Artec Ray is a tripod-mounted laser scanner with which Artec entered the capture of large objects and spaces in 2018. It measures by phase shift with an eye-safe 1,550 nm laser, covers 360° × 270° and reaches up to 110 m. According to the data sheet the ranging error is below 0.7 mm at 15 m, and two integrated 5 MP cameras provide colour. Two swappable batteries allow up to four hours of operation off the grid. It was intended for large objects such as industrial plants, vehicles or buildings, also combined with handheld scanners such as Eva or Leo. In 2023 it was replaced by the Ray II.

With a used Ray, proof of a current calibration is central, as angular and ranging errors grow unnoticed over time. Ask about drops, the condition of mirror and window, and the number and age of the batteries. Artec Studio is required for registration; according to Artec the licence stays with the seller, and the device is only re-registered after the seller confirms. Since the successor is on sale, check service and calibration options for the Ray with an Artec partner beforehand.
