Additive Industries MetalFAB1 — Technical data
The MetalFAB1 was the first system from Eindhoven-based Additive Industries and was presented at Formnext 2015; beta customers followed from 2016 and North America from late 2017. Its hallmark is the modular layout of a control module, one or more AM cores as build chambers with their own powder supply, an exchange module for build plates and optional storage and heat treatment modules for stress relief. Three to eleven modules can be combined. Each build chamber measures 420 × 420 × 400 mm and is exposed by up to four 500 W lasers without stitching the build field. It has been succeeded by the MetalFab G2 since 2021.
Because every MetalFAB1 is configured differently, inspection starts with the module list: number of AM cores, lasers per core, storage and heat treatment. According to dealer data, a system with three cores is almost eight metres long and weighs over nine tonnes. For each core, laser hours, filters, sieving unit and powder path should be documented, along with the control software version. As the MetalFAB1 is no longer built, ask the manufacturer directly about service, spare parts and possible upgrades.
