3D Systems ZPrinter 850 — Technical data

The ZPrinter 850 was the largest full-colour system in the ZPrinter range and appeared in 2012, just as Z Corporation had been taken over by 3D Systems. Compared with the ZPrinter 650 it doubles the build volume to 508 × 381 × 229 mm, with the same colour technology using five heads for clear binder and CMYK. It prints at 600 × 540 dpi in layers of 0.089 to 0.102 mm; according to trade press it can render up to 390,000 colours and details down to 0.1 mm. Vertical build rate is 5 to 15 mm per hour. The unit measures about 1.19 × 1.16 × 1.62 m and requires compressed air. The format was later called ProJet 860Pro.

A used ZPrinter 850 pays off for businesses that need large colour models in one piece, for example in architecture or product design. The large build volume ties up a lot of plaster powder, and the five printheads are wear parts whose supply must be secured beforehand. Check nozzle tests for all colours, service station, powder conveying, filters, depowdering station and the compressed air connection. Plan sufficient space with extraction for installation, footprint and infiltration of parts.
