3D Systems ZPrinter 450 — Technical data

The ZPrinter 450 was Z Corporation's compact colour model. It works with plaster composite powder and binder like the monochrome 350, has practically the same 203 × 254 × 204 mm build volume and prints at 300 × 450 dpi in layers of 0.089 to 0.102 mm. Colour comes from a tri-colour head with cyan, magenta and yellow alongside the head for clear binder; according to dealers these are HP types 11 and 57. Vertical build speed is around 23 mm per hour. The 450 brought automatic powder loading and recycling to the Z Corp range; 3D Systems later continued the format as the ProJet 460Plus.

When buying a used ZPrinter 450, the printheads are the core issue: both are consumables, and whether original or compatible HP 11 and HP 57 heads can still be obtained in sufficient quantity decides continued operation. Also check powder feed, extraction, filters, waste system and service station. zp130 powder and zb59 binder should be fresh and stored dry. A colour test print shows whether all nozzles work and colour calibration is correct.
